S Sharad Rao prematurely repatriated to parent cadre

S Sharad Rao (IOFS:2011), Director in the Ministry of Steel, has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre on personal grounds.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday (September 1, 2026), the Competent Authority has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Steel for his premature repatriation to his parent cadre, with provision for an extended cooling-off period.

Notably, Rao has been serving in the Ministry of Steel since June 20, 2022. He had initially joined the Ministry as Deputy Secretary and was subsequently appointed as Director.

His combined tenure of five years under the ex-cadre and Central Staffing Scheme was scheduled to continue until June 19, 2027. However, he is being repatriated to his parent cadre before the completion of his tenure.
