New Delhi: The central deputation tenure of IAS officer Brij Mohan Mishra (IAS:2008:AGMUT) as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce has been extended by six months.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (November 2, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the Department of Commerce proposal to extend his deputation tenure for six months beyond November 16, 2026, or until he is relieved to take up his new assignment as Minister (Economic and Commercial) at the Embassy of India in Tokyo, Japan, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Mishra was appointed Minister (Economic and Commercial) at the Embassy of India in Tokyo for a three-year tenure in the first week of August 2026. He is expected to take up the assignment after the completion of the tenure of incumbent Debjani Chakrabarti (IAS:2002:OD), who is scheduled to complete her tenure on April 28, 2027.
Mishra joined central deputation as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Commerce on November 16, 2021, for a four-year tenure. Following his empanelment for holding Joint Secretary-level posts in the Government of India, he was appointed Joint Secretary in the department on November 1, 2025, and his tenure was extended until November 16, 2026.
With his five-year central deputation tenure due to end on November 16, 2026, the latest extension will allow him to continue in the Department of Commerce until he is relieved to assume his diplomatic assignment in Tokyo or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
