54th PRAGATI Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in his characteristic style while admonishing ministries and state govts to resolve bottlenecks and fix accountability to ensure timely delivery of welfare benefits and completion of infrastructure projects. He called for tighter monitoring of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects, while directing chief secretaries to review their implementation with District Magistrates every month.

The PM was chairing the 54th PRAGATI Meeting at Seva Teerth on Wednesday, where he reviewed infrastructure projects worth over Rs 16,000 crore covering railways, PM Ekta Malls and bulk drug across thirty-one states and Union territories.

PRAGATI is the ICT-enabled, multi-modal platform aimed at fostering pro-active governance and timely implementation of policies. The platform brings together the Central and State Governments to address implementation bottlenecks and improve the delivery of projects and welfare schemes.

The PM is said to have voiced his grave concern over delay in land acquisition for projects and slow progress in redevelopment of Ahmedabad railway station. According to an official, Modi asked agencies to complete the redevelopment project by Aug 2027 at any cost.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in an official release, said Modi emphasised that governance must focus more on outcomes than outlays, ensuring that public expenditure translates into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

PM Modi also highlighted the role that PM Ekta Malls can play in providing markets for local products, strengthening livelihoods of artisans and helping them expand their enterprises. PM Modi also emphasised the need to link Ekta malls with tourism and local businesses.

He also referred to the Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks Programmes in his address and highlighted the importance of regular monitoring and local accountability in accelerating development in underserved areas.
