If the NITI Ayog is to be believed, there is some encouraging news on the front of Covid-19. The spread of the corona virus has slowed down sharply in the past month, and will decelerate more as a result of the extended lockdown.

According to a NITI Ayog member and the head of the empowered group overseeing the Covid-19 medical emergency management plan, Dr Vinod Paul, the number of cases is now doubling in week, compared to 3.5 days in the second week of March. He said it shows that the curve is flattening and will soon reach 10 days.

The number of Covid cases had crossed 1000 mark by March 29. According to Dr Paul, the downward curve began on April 4 when doubling rate of infections started easing towards seven days.

Dr Paul hopes that the situation will improve a lot during the extended lockdown.
