Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas (IAS:1989:RJ) has been granted a six-month extension. He will now hold the post until Feb 28, 2027. The extension was needed for his service, as he was due to retire on Aug 31.
According to sources, the Rajasthan government had initially sought a one-year extension for him and sent a formal proposal on July 23, citing the need for his continuity as the state is preparing for local body elections and is working on the implementation of major investment proposals worth around Rs 35 lakh crore announced during the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit.
But the Union Ministry of Personnel has approved only a six-month extension and communicated its approval to the state govt.
Srinivas took over the top bureaucratic post in the state on Nov 17, 2025, after serving on central deputation. So the state govt was keen on retaining his service for better coordination with the Centre, particularly in the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes.
His extension has also put to rest the growing speculation over the appointment of a new Chief Secretary, at least for the time being.
