Odisha cadre IPS officer Jagmohan Meena (IPS:2013:OR), currently serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, has resigned from the Indian Police Service (IPS), citing personal reasons.
Meena, a native of Rajasthan, said the decision was taken after due consultation with his family and friends. “There is no external pressure on me. It’s a well-thought-out decision after 13 years of service. I request you all to respect my privacy,” Meena said after submitting his resignation.
His resignation is currently under process and is yet to be accepted by the competent authority.
Although Meena has not officially announced his future plans, he indicated that he intends to move to the private sector after completing the formalities related to his resignation.
During his 13-year career in the Odisha cadre, Meena served in several key policing assignments. He was posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Malkangiri, Angul and Ganjam districts before serving as DCP, Cuttack and later DCP, Bhubaneswar. He was also associated with anti-Maoist operations and handled several important criminal investigations and law-and-order assignments.
Expressing gratitude, Meena said it was a matter of pride to serve the people of Odisha and thanked the state government for entrusting him with important responsibilities during his career.
Notably, Meena is among a handful of relatively young IPS officers who have resigned from the service before superannuation in recent years. In August 2024, Kamya Mishra (IPS:2019:BH) resigned while serving as SP (Rural), Darbhanga, Bihar, citing personal reasons. In May 2025, Rachita Juyal (IPS:2015:UK) stepped down while serving as SP, Vigilance in Uttarakhand, also citing personal reasons. Siddharth Kaushal (IPS:2012:AP) announced his resignation in July 2025 while serving as SP (Administration) at the Andhra Pradesh DGP Office, stating that the decision was taken purely on personal grounds. He later joined Reliance Industries Limited.
Meena will continue to serve until his resignation is formally accepted by the competent authority.
