New Delhi: Sharmistha Maitra (IDES:2005), Director in the Ministry of Defence, has been prematurely repatriated to her parent cadre on personal grounds.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (November 5, 2026), the competent authority has approved the Ministry of Defence proposal for her premature repatriation to her parent cadre with the provision of extended cooling off.

Maitra has been serving in the Ministry of Defence at the Director level since September 1, 2020. She was initially appointed for a five-year tenure.

In July 2025, her deputation tenure was extended by two years, up to August 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever was earlier. However, she has now been prematurely repatriated before completion of the extended tenure.
