Tarun Kapoor gets one-year extension as PM Modi’s Advisor in PMO

The Centre has extended the tenure of Tarun Kapoor as Advisor to the Prime Minister in PMO by one year till June 2027.

The tenure of Tarun Kapoor (Retd. IAS:1987:HP) as Advisor to the Prime Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been extended by one year on contract basis.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (June 4, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved extension of his tenure for a further period of one year beyond June 10, 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Kapoor has been serving as Advisor to the Prime Minister since May 2, 2022. He was initially appointed for a tenure of two years.

Subsequently, his tenure was briefly extended on a co-terminus basis with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the second term of the BJP-led NDA government concluded.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office for the new term, Kapoor was again appointed as Advisor to the Prime Minister for two years on June 13, 2024 with effect from June 10, 2024.

With the latest order, Kapoor will continue in the position till June 10, 2027 or until further orders.

Prior to joining the PMO, Kapoor served as Chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Earlier, he retired as Petroleum Secretary in November 2021.
