Patna: Shobha Ohatkar (Retd. IPS:1990:BH) has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC).
Ohatkar retired as Director General, Home Guard and Fire Services, Bihar, on June 30, 2026. Her appointment has been made under the provisions of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission Act, 2002.
With her appointment, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary (IAS:1995:BH), Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department with multiple additional responsibilities, has been relieved of the additional charge of Chairperson, BSSC.
Ohatkar is widely regarded as a disciplined and efficient officer. Her appointment is expected to strengthen transparency and accountability in the Commission’s functioning, with a focus on curbing examination malpractices, including paper leaks, and ensuring a fair and credible recruitment process.
The appointment of a full-time Chairperson is also expected to expedite several pending recruitment processes, examination schedules and declaration of results. This assumes significance as the Bihar Government plans to fill more than 1.72 lakh vacancies in the near future.
