The Telangana High Court dropped contempt proceedings against state Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao (IAS:1991:TG) on Wednesday. It was done after the court confirmed compliance with its earlier order in which it had directed payment of timescale wages to two part-time sweepers in the Irrigation Department under the Suryapet district.
Justice E.V. Venugopal took up a contempt petition on Wednesday during which CS Ramakrishna Rao personally appeared before the court in connection with non-compliance of earlier judicial orders during his tenure as Principal Secretary of the Finance Department.
The contempt case was filed in the year 2018 by two part-time sweepers working in the Irrigation Department in the Suryapet district, seeking payment of minimum time-scale wages along with applicable increments.
The High Court had directed the authorities to consider and extend the said benefits. However, the petitioners initiated contempt proceedings, alleging non-compliance with the said directions by the Finance Department.
When the matter was taken up, the CS placed on record that the court’s directions had since been complied with. He also submitted material evidence to substantiate his claims.
In view of the compliance reported and the material placed on record, Justice E.V. Venugopal decided to drop the contempt proceedings.
