Ms. Soorya Thankappan (IPS:2001:OR) has been appointed as CVO of Fertilizers & Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT), Kochi for a period of three years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (14.11.2022), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ms. Thankappan to the post of CVO, FACT for an initial period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
IRCTC Q2 results: Net profit rises 42% to Rs 226 crore, revenue from operations surged 99%
In the quarter that ended September 30, 2022, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation posted a net profit of Rs 226 crore. This is a 42 percent rise from the previous quarter. Last year, the catering arm of Indian Railways reported a net profit of Rs 159 crore.
Its net profit, however, fell 7.7 percent from Rs 245.5 crore in the previous quarter (Q1FY23). From Rs 405 crore in the same quarter last year, revenue from operations surged 99 percent to Rs 806 crore in the quarter under review.
Moreover, IRCTC’s total income surged 105 percent to Rs 832 crore in Q2FY23 from Rs 405 crore in Q2FY22.
In the wake of the country’s resumption of trains and catering services after being hit by COVID-19 pandemic, IRCTC’s catering services reported a multi-fold increase in revenue to Rs 334 crore as against Rs 71 crore. Revenue from other segments, such as internet ticketing, increased 13 percent from Rs 265 crore to Rs 300 crore.
IRCTC to serve regional dishes, healthy food and also baby food
Railway Board’s catering and tourism arm IRCTC can customize its menu to include local and regional cuisines as well as food suitable for diabetics, infants and health enthusiasts.
IRCTC Limited is all set to play a bigger role in passenger train catering services. This move will improve catering services on trains and give passengers more options. Ministry of Railways has recently entrusted the company with the additional responsibility of deciding the Menu of the meals served to the passengers on board premium and mail/express passenger trains. Since its inception, IRCTC has been focusing its strength of professional hospitality services on improving the quality of catering services on trains as well as stations and has played an important role in professionalizing and improving
the meal experience of the passengers.
The above step of Ministry of Railways to entrust IRCTC with the power to decide the menu on trains is seen as a welcome move and IRCTC will be able to introduce an array of menu options for the passengers with the aim of promoting regional delicacies, seasonal dishes, festive foods besides catering to the special requirements of patients, health conscious passengers and infants through
introducing diabetic food, health food and baby food. Besides, at the behest of Government of India, the world will be celebrating 2023 as the “International Year of Millets” to promote the consumption of highly nutritious nutri-cereal Bajra and IRCTC is all gearing up to introduce Millets in its menu to promote the noble initiative of the Government of India.
Besides this, Ministry of Railways, has also permitted IRCTC to sell branded food items as well as dishes/meals available in the menu (a-la-carte dishes) in premium as well as mail/express passenger trains. While the branded food items will be sold as per MRP, the a-la-carte meals will be priced by IRCTC.
The above move of Ministry of Railways is seen to be extremely encouraging with the aim of improving the overall meal experience of the passengers. Rail travelers will now be able to order meals from wider options of menu and can now relish on wider array of dishes as per their choice and palette.
