New Delhi: The Central government has appointed Syed Akbaruddin, Annie George Mathew and Janmejaya Kumar Sinha as part-time, non-official Directors on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of four years with effect from August 24, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Syed Akbaruddin, a 1985-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, served as India’s Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from 2016 to 2020. He is currently Dean of the Kautilya School of Public Policy, Hyderabad.
Annie George Mathew, a 1988-batch Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) officer, superannuated as Special Secretary (Expenditure), Ministry of Finance, in September 2021. She subsequently served as a full-time Member of the 16th Finance Commission.
Janmejaya Kumar Sinha is Chairman, India, at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and a member of the Henderson Institute Innovation Sounding Board, which supports, inspires and guides upstream innovation at BCG. Before joining BCG in 1998, he worked with the Reserve Bank of India.
The appointments come a week after the government appointed former ISRO Chairman S. Somanath and re-appointed industrialist Anand Gopal Mahindra as part-time, non-official Directors on the RBI Central Board. Their four-year terms took effect from August 20, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
