An Inquiry Authority has now been appointed by the Andhra Pradesh government to probe corruption charges against suspended IPS officer N Sanjay (IPS:1996:AP). He is facing charges of alleged misappropriation and misuse of public funds during his different tenures.
Senior IAS officer Kumar Vishwajeet (IAS:1994:AP), currently serving as Principal Secretary in the state Home Department, has been named as the Inquiry Authority.
Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad (IAS:1991:AP) issued the Government Order (GO) in this regard on Tuesday.
The CS said that the Authority will conduct an inquiry into the charges framed against Sanjay and submit its report to the govt within the prescribed time limit.
The GO also says that the govt had earlier directed IPS officer Sanjay to submit a written statement of defence, but he failed to do so.
Sanjay has been accused of misappropriation and misuse of public funds in the work, development, and maintenance of the AGNI (Automated Governance & NoC Integration) web portal and other alleged irregularities. Sanjay was serving as Director General of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response & Fire Services when these alleged irregularities took place.
Besides, the IPS officer has also been accused of misappropriating funds allocated for training police personnel to create awareness among members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes about their rights while serving as ADG, CID.
According to the GO, the state govt decided to conduct a regular inquiry into the charges framed against Sanjay after careful examination of facts.
It is important to mention here that the IPS officer was the CID chief when current Chief Minister and then TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the CID in 2023.
