An alleged altercation involving a young Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer at a Bengaluru pub a few days back is threatening to snowball into a crisis. As per media reports, the Andhra Pradesh government is considering taking action against IAS officer Vikas Marmat (IAS:2019:AP) booked in the case along with his friends.
Vikas Marmat, currently posted as Project Director of the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), along with three friends allegedly assaulted the police team, including a police inspector, during a late-night police raid at the pub.
An FIR has been lodged at Cubbon Park police station against Marmat and his friends.
With Kuppam being the home constituency of state Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the CM is said to have asked for a detailed report from Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad.
On the other hand, the incident has prompted the rival YSR Congress to accuse the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance govt of trying to shield the officer.
Otherwise, Marmat, an engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur, is known for his commendable works leading several development initiatives in housing, rural development and solid waste management, besides improving civic facilities at KADA. Only last month, he had received the SKOCH Award for KADA initiatives.
But, according to sources, CM Naidu believes the incident has drawn “unwarranted attention” to the state bureaucracy, and hence contemplates action.
