Senior Karnataka cadre IPS officer Alok Kumar (IPS:1994:KN), currently posted as DGP (Prisons and Correctional Services), has voiced displeasure with the state government over the phone-tapping case through a letter to the state Chief Secretary, Shalini Rajneesh (IAS:1989:KN).

Kumar has outlined 13 points in his letter to the Chief Secretary requesting a verification of the facts.

Kumar has said that despite a report having already been submitted to the court after concluding the investigation into the phone-tapping case, incorrect information was provided to the Supreme Court portraying him as an accused.

It needs to be mentioned here that the High Court had ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Alok Kumar to investigate the conspiracy behind the recruitment of Veterinary Officers and other posts conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). However, the state govt challenged the High Court’s order by filing an appeal in the Supreme Court.

The state govt had opposed Alok Kumar’s inclusion in the team, stating there are allegations of phone-tapping against him.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the apex court bench allowed the replacement of the team’s heads—DGP Alok Kumar and DIG Divya Gopinath.

Alok Kumar has expressed his displeasure regarding this matter, saying a report regarding the phone-tapping case had been submitted to the court as early as February 13, 2024. Yet, according to him, the top court was told that the case is still at the inquiry stage.
