The strength of the Haryana cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) has been increased from 215 to 226 with the addition of 11 posts, following a revision approved by the Central Government after nearly seven and a half years.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 11, the revised cadre structure raises the direct recruitment quota from 150 to 158 posts. The promotion quota, filled through officers of the Haryana Civil Service (Executive Branch) and eligible non-HCS services, has also been revised upward from 65 to 68 posts.
The last revision in Haryana’s IAS cadre strength took place in December 2018, when the total sanctioned strength was increased from 205 to 215 posts. The latest revision continues with one post of Chief Secretary at the apex of the state administrative structure.
One of the most notable changes in the revised cadre regulations is the creation of five dedicated IAS cadre posts for Chief Executive Officers of Metropolitan Development Authorities in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Panchkula, Sonipat and Hisar. These positions were not part of the earlier cadre structure.
The revised framework also reflects restructuring across senior administrative levels. The number of Financial Commissioner/Principal Secretary level posts has been reduced from 12 to 10, while Secretary to Government posts have been brought down from nine to seven.
At the same time, the number of Director General/Commissioner level posts has increased from one to three. Similarly, Director/Project Director positions have been expanded from one to five.
At the district level, the number of Deputy Commissioner posts has been increased from 22 to 23 following the creation of Hansi as Haryana’s 23rd revenue district in December 2025. The number of Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chief Executive Officer, District Rural Development Agency/Additional Collector posts has also been increased from seven to eight.
