Mahendra Kumar gets third one-year extension in Labour Ministry

IRSEE officer Mahendra Kumar’s tenure as Joint Secretary in Labour Ministry extended till May 2027 by ACC.

The central deputation tenure of Mahendra Kumar (IRSEE:1999) as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Labour & Employment has been extended by one year.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (April 4, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of his deputation tenure for a period of one year beyond May 22, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

This is his third one-year extension. He has been serving in the ministry since May 22, 2019, when he was initially appointed as Director for a period of five years.

Before the completion of his tenure in May 2024, his term as Director was extended till May 22, 2025. During this period, he was empanelled as Joint Secretary and was subsequently elevated to the post on April 23, 2024.

On May 12, 2025, he was granted a one-year extension as Joint Secretary. With this latest extension, his tenure will now continue till May 22, 2027.
