New Delhi: In a significant administrative development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the waiver of the mandatory cooling-off period for senior IPS officer Sudha Singh (IPS:2006:OR), in relaxation of the IPS Tenure Policy.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (September 16, 2026), the ACC approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for waiver of the mandatory “cooling-off” period for central deputation in respect of Singh.
Singh recently completed a seven-year tenure with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where she last served as Joint Director. Her deputation tenure with the agency concluded on July 28, 2026.
She joined the CBI in July 2019 as Superintendent of Police (SP). Her initial five-year deputation tenure was subsequently extended by two years in July 2024, allowing her to continue with the agency until July 2026.
Under the IPS Tenure Policy, an officer completing a central deputation stint is required to undergo a cooling-off period before becoming eligible for another central deputation. The ACC has now approved a waiver of this mandatory cooling-off period in Singh’s case.
