Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna (IPS:1991:UP) stressed the need for technological upgradation and advanced commando training for the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) sleuths to take on emerging security challenges. He spoke his mind while carrying out a comprehensive inspection of the ATS headquarters on Sunday.
The DGP elaborated on how modern terrorism is getting increasingly technology-driven, which requires real-time intelligence, digital surveillance, and rapid-response capabilities. Krishna asked ATS units to adopt advanced data analytics systems, AI-enabled monitoring, and integrated surveillance platforms to track suspicious activities, especially across social media and encrypted communication channels.
Krishna laid emphasis on ensuring seamless coordination between field units and central intelligence agencies through secure, technology-driven communication networks.
On this occasion, the DGP was briefed about the induction of modern equipment, including upgrades in cyber monitoring infrastructure, digital forensics, and intelligence coordination systems.
The DGP called for a structured training ecosystem for ATS commandos, while emphasing the need for regular mock drills simulating real-life terror scenarios—such as hostage situations, urban warfare, and IED neutralization—to be institutionalised to sharpen response time and tactical precision.
He further directed that ATS commandos undergo specialised, high-intensity training modules in collaboration with premier institutions like the National Security Guard (NSG).
He stressed the need for significantly enhancing operational effectiveness through exposure to national and international best practices.
The DGP also reviewed the existing training infrastructure at the ATS headquarters and called for the need to continuously upgrade facilities to match global standards.
