The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will mark its centenary year with a series of landmark initiatives, including the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to serve as a repository of best practices and innovations from UPSC and state public service commissions (PSCs). The celebrations will run from October 1, 2025, to October 1, 2026, commemorating 100 years since the commission’s inception on October 1, 1926.
Announcing the initiative, UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar said the proposed CoE will act as a knowledge hub for standard operating procedures (SOPs), reforms, and key learnings from UPSC and PSCs. He emphasized that while UPSC will lead the effort, the active participation of state PSCs will be vital in shaping the repository.
The CoE, Kumar added, would not only benefit UPSC and state PSCs but also support other national recruitment bodies in strengthening their examination and selection processes.
The announcement came during a virtual meeting chaired by Kumar with state PSC representatives, attended by UPSC Members Dinesh Dasa and Anuradha Prasad. The session also highlighted the need to increase outreach in aspirational districts, where awareness and participation in civil services exams remain low.
Participants stressed the importance of awareness campaigns, mentoring programs, and inclusivity measures to ensure that aspirants from underrepresented regions are motivated to join public service.
Dinesh Dasa further invited PSCs to participate in exhibitions of best practices and awareness programmes during the centenary year. The meeting saw the participation of chairpersons and members of 27 state PSCs.
