Punjab CM’s CPS ‘quits’, government says rumour

The Chief Principal Secretary (CPS) to Punjab CM, Suresh Kumar, on Tuesday returned his official vehicles and relieved his staff of duty, fuelling speculation that he no longer wants to continue in the government.

The CPS remained incommunicado since morning as efforts by some ministers and officials to reach out to him went futile. The CM’s office dismissed the reports of his resignation as rumour.

This comes a day after Kumar met CM Capt Amarinder Singh where Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan was also present. Kumar had re-joined work after 15 days of quarantine following his son’s return from abroad.

Sources said Kumar, a retired IAS, was upset over an on-going case in the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding his appointment. After the appointment of the new Chief Secretary, the CPS was said to be upset over certain postings and transfers.
