New Delhi: In a significant development, Rajasthan cadre IAS officer Rajeev Singh Thakur (IAS:1995:RJ) is likely to appointed as the next Chief Secretary of Manipur after the central government approved his inter-cadre deputation on Friday (August 28, 2026).
He is likely to replace Dr Puneet Kumar Goel (IAS:1991:AGMUT), who is set to retire on August 31, 2026.
Thakur, a 1995-batch IAS officer, is currently on central deputation and serving as Advisor, NITI Aayog, in the rank of Secretary. His central deputation, which had earlier been extended till December 3, 2026, has now been curtailed following the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
According to the approval, Thakur’s inter-cadre deputation will continue until June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation. The approval has been granted as a relaxation of the existing deputation policy.
