New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Gyanesh Bharti (IAS:1998:AGMUT) has been appointed Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Islands following his repatriation from central deputation to his parent cadre.
According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday (August 10, 2026), Bharti will take charge as Chief Secretary from the date of assumption of charge and will hold the post until further orders.
The appointment followed a Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) order issued on the same day, through which the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Bharti’s repatriation to his parent AGMUT cadre on the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with imposition of extended cooling-off.
Bharti has been serving as Deputy Election Commissioner. Before joining the Election Commission of India, he served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
A 1998-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Bharti has held several key assignments, including unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
