The Supreme Court has granted bail to former Chhattisgarh IAS officer Anil Tuteja in a corruption case related to alleged irregularities in multi-crore civil works contracts under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), which reportedly caused losses to the public exchequer.
A Bench headed by Surya Kant allowed bail while imposing certain conditions on Tuteja. The court directed him to stay outside Chhattisgarh to avoid influencing witnesses in the case. He has also been asked to furnish his new residential address within a week and remain present before the trial court on every date of hearing.
During the proceedings, the court recorded the State government’s objections to granting bail. The State argued that Tuteja was a “habitual offender” and allegedly linked to multiple cases involving liquor, coal and betting-related scams.
Additional Advocate General Ravi Sharma, appearing for the State, submitted before the court that Tuteja had a role in multiple alleged scams.
Senior advocate Shoeb Alam, appearing for Tuteja, argued that his client had already spent nearly two-and-a-half years in jail as an undertrial. He submitted that the case involved 85 witnesses and nine accused awaiting trial.
The defence further argued that Tuteja, who was serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Industry, had no role in awarding contracts as the civil works and related contracts were issued by concerned District Collectors.
Alam also told the court that while the State had described Tuteja as the “kingpin” in the case in September 2024, he was arrested only in February 2026. He further alleged that fresh FIRs were repeatedly being registered against his client whenever he obtained relief in earlier cases.
Tuteja, through his counsel, also sought permission to stay away from Chhattisgarh, saying he wished to live with his family.
