The Union government on Saturday (September 5, 2026) notified appointments of Chief Justices at eight High Courts.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on social media, stating that the President, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has appointed the following High Court judges as Chief Justices.
The appointments are as follows:
- Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao, Judge, Delhi High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
- Justice Ravindra V Ghuge, Judge, Bombay High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
- Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, Judge, Chhattisgarh High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
- Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, Judge, Allahabad High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
- Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
- Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, Judge, Orissa High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
- Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje, Judge, Gujarat High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
- Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Judge, Rajasthan High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
