The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in service for Vikram Misri, a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer serving as Foreign Secretary.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (July 1, 2026), Misri’s tenure has been extended for one year beyond July 14, 2026, up to July 14, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Vikram Misri assumed charge as India’s Foreign Secretary in July, 2024 and has been overseeing the country’s diplomatic engagements and foreign policy initiatives. With the latest decision, he will continue in the country’s top diplomatic post for another year.
