In a significant development, the Union Government has rejected the Rajasthan govt’s request seeking repatriation of four IAS officers currently on central deputation.
The state’s Personnel Department had written to the DoPT under the Union Govt, seeking the return of the IAS officers who have been on central deputation for five years or more.
The four IAS officers the Centre has refused to repatriate to Rajasthan are Nareshpal Gangwar (IAS:1994:RJ), currently posted as Secretary in the Animal Husbandry department; Rajeev Singh Thakur (IAS:1995:RJ), currently serving as Chief Secretary of Manipur after being sent on an inter-cadre deputation by the Centre; Roli Singh (IAS:1994:RJ), currently posted as Chairperson of the National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention; and Rajat Kumar Mishra (IAS:1992:RJ), currently serving as Secretary of the Fertilizers department.
The state suffers from a shortage of 41 IAS officers with only 291 in-position strength against the sanctioned strength of 332.
The situation has been further confounded by the fact that a total of 19 IAS officers from the state are currently posted at the Centre.
It has led to a difficult situation resulting in 39 officers, including the Chief Secretary, holding additional charges.
The state govt badly needs senior officers, as budget announcements are yet to be fully implemented despite the state’s BJP govt about to complete its third year in office.
The Centre has, however, refused to relieve even four of them.
Interestingly, only recently had the Rajasthan govt. refused to allow four of its IAS officers to go on central deputation despite the Centre’s approval, citing a shortage of officers in the state.
