New Delhi: REC Limited celebrated National Sports Day by organising intra-organisation tournaments in Chess, Table Tennis and Cricket, bringing together employees in a spirit of sportsmanship, fitness and camaraderie.
The events were organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and promote wellness and fitness among employees.
The celebrations began on August 27, 2026, with the Chess and Table Tennis competitions. A total of 16 participants took part in the Chess tournament, while 12 participants competed in Table Tennis.
The celebrations culminated on August 29, 2026, with a Cricket match between Team Urja (Men in Blue) and Team Shakti (Men in Red), involving a total of 28 players. Team Shakti emerged victorious in the contest.
REC Chairman and Managing Director Jitendra Srivastava actively participated in both the Table Tennis tournament and the Cricket match as a player of Team Shakti, hitting the final shot of the match.
Speaking on the occasion, Jitendra Srivastava said that sports instil discipline, strategic thinking and resilience, qualities that are essential both on the field and in professional life. He said that honouring the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand reminds everyone of the value of collective effort and dedication, and expressed happiness at the REC family coming together with passion and team spirit.
The event was also attended by TSC Bosh, Director (Projects), and Rajesh Kumar, Director (Finance), who encouraged the participants and felicitated the winners.
The celebrations concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognising the talent, enthusiasm and sporting spirit displayed by the participants.
