RBI appoints Ravi Shankar as Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Ravi Shankar as Executive Director. He will head the Department of Statistics and Information Management.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Ravi Shankar as Executive Director (ED) with effect from July 1, 2026.

Prior to his promotion, Shankar was serving as Adviser-in-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM) of the RBI.

As Executive Director, he will oversee the Department of Statistics and Information Management.

A career central banker statistician, Shankar has over three decades of experience at the RBI. During his career, he has worked in the areas of corporate and banking statistics, government securities market and settlement systems, debt management, and surveys. He has also served as a member of several committees and working groups relating to macroeconomic statistics and policy issues.

Shankar holds a Master’s degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University, a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB).
