The Maharashtra government has reinstated G Vijay Krishna Yadav (IPS:2015:MH), who had been under suspension since 2018 over alleged involvement in a bribery case. He was reinstated on September 22 and posted as Deputy Superintendent of Human Rights, Amravati district.
Yadav was suspended in 2018 while serving as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Amravati, after he was accused of demanding a bribe from a building materials supplier booked for theft at Tivasa police station.
The state government had recommended Yadav’s dismissal in 2019, following which the centre had sought a clarification regarding why he should be dismissed. IPS officers are central government employees and cannot be dismissed without the centre’s approval.
The Union Home Ministry directed the state to follow due process of law and conduct a departmental inquiry. It also accorded sanction to prosecute Yadav if found guilty during the inquiry.
