The suspended Kerala IAS officer, N Prasanth (IAS:2007:KL), is in news again for a wrong reason. His suspension has been further extended for six months. The action was taken after he refused to budge from his allegations against the government during the hearing held on the instructions of the state Chief Minister.
The Suspension Review Committee met on May 5, and recommended the extension of his suspension. The Department of Public Administration issued an order on May 7 extending his suspension for another six months, effective from May 10.
His suspension had been extended first time for four months on January 9. The order to extend it further was issued as its term was to expire on May 9.
The www.legendofficers.com had reported that Prasanth was waging a protracted battle as the then Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan (IAS:1990:KL) was to retire on April 30, and Prasanth’s original betenoire, A Jayathilak (IAS:1991:KL), was likely to take over as Chief Secretary. And this has proved true.
Prasanth’s outburst on social media had invited suspension for him on November 11, 2024, yet he remained unstoppable and continued to level serious allegations against senior bureaucrats, including the then Additional Chief Secretary A Jayathilak, IAS officer K Gopalakrishnan (IAS:2013:KL), and later turned his guns at the then Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan herself. He went to the extent of slapping legal notices on them, accusing them of fabricating charges and conspiring against him. Earlier, he called for criminal proceedings against Jayathilak, Gopalakrishnan, and a media group, accusing them of conspiracy and the fabrication of documents against him.
Prasanth was even called for a personal hearing by Muraleedharan but he continued his belligerence. He even threatened the government, saying that the rule of law is also applicable to the government and it should not behave in a manner that those aggrieved can resort to legal redress.
Interestingly, Prasanth even asked the government not to show any hurry to revoke his suspension without redressing the issues raised by him, little knowing that he was headed for another extension, rather than revocation, of his suspension.
