One of the senior most bureaucrats of the Punjab cadre, K Siva Prasad, has been granted voluntary retirement. A 1993-batch IAS officer, Prasad’s resignation was accepted by the department of personnel and training (DoPT) under the Government of India. Siva Prasad’s plea to retire voluntarily had been accepted by the Punjab government and his file was sent to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for acceptance. Now as the Centre has accepted his resignation, he will be relieved by the state government.
Siva Prasad is currently posted as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Punjab Governor.
According to sources, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tried to dissuade him from retirement but Prasad is said to be adamant on it. Prasad, otherwise, was due to retire in 2030.
But, this is not the first time that Prasad had sought premature retirement. He had put in his papers during former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s regime also, but later reconsidered his decision at CM’s behest.
Apart from carrying out his professional duties, Siva Prasad is an accomplished author with a keen interest in spirituality and philosophy. His
book, Gita Acharan – A Beginner’s Perspective, on the teachings of Bhagavad Gita and its application in modern-day life, has been translated
into several languages.
Interestingly, the news of his seeking premature retirement has led to gossiping as to what he will do after retirement. Some say he wanted to author more books, so he is retiring. Being a relative of former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi, it is also being speculated that he would join politics.
