The Uttarakhand government on Monday (25.11.2025) issued orders appointing senior IPS officer Deepam Seth (IPS:1995:UK) as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.
He was frontrunner for the post among the three names recommended by the UPSC. When the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday prematurely repatriated him to his parent cadre Uttarakhand at the request of state government, it became clear that he would assume the role of DGP. Prior to his repatriation, Seth was serving as Additional Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Seth replaces Abhinav Kumar (IPS:1996:UK), who is holding the charge since December 1, 2023, following the retirement of regular DGP Ashok Kumar (IPS:1989:UD) on November 30, 2023.
