The UPSC has for the first time decided to allow the applicants to withdraw their applications, if they do not wish to appear for the civil services exams due to be held in May this year. The move is believed to have been taken to ease the resources of the commission.
Nearly 10 lakh candidates fill their forms each year, but hardly 50% actually appear for the exam.
The preliminary exams will be held on May 31 this year. Through a UPSC notification, the aspirants can withdraw their applications between 12 March and 18 March.
