UP set to get permanent DGP; UPSC holding ECM on Tuesday in Delhi

After nearly four years of interregnum, UP is going to have a permanent DGP as the UPSC is holding its ECM in Delhi on Tuesday to finalise the panel.

UP DGP Empanelment

After nearly four years of interregnum, Uttar Pradesh is poised to get a permanent DGP, as the UPSC is going to hold its Empanelment Committee Meeting (ECM) in the national capital, scheduled for today (Tuesday). Chief Secretary SP Goyal will be representing the state government at the meeting. Three top-ranking IPS officers from the state will be shortlisted in today’s meeting, and the panel will be sent to the UP government to choose one of them as DGP.

The three names likely to be included in the panel are IPS officers Renuka Mishra (IPS:1990:UP), Piyush Anand (IPS:1991:UP), and acting DGP Rajiv Krishna (IPS:1991:UP). However, it is almost certain that acting DGP Rajiv Krishna will be appointed as the permanent DGP.

So far as the seniority list is concerned, Renuka Mishra is at the top, but due to the constable recruitment paper leak case, she is considered to be out of the reckoning. Piyush Anand is currently on central deputation as DG NDRF. So Rajiv Krishna becomes the most plausible name for the post.

It’s worth mentioning here that UP hasn’t had a permanent DGP since Mukul Goyal in May 2022.
