New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has got three IPS officers examined by an AIIMS medical board to verify their health status after they remained away from their assigned postings for more than a year citing medical reasons, according to reports. The medical board’s report will be submitted to the MHA, which will decide the further course of action.
The officers who underwent the medical examination are Gaurav Sharma (IPS:2009:AGMUT), Brijendra Singh (IPS:2010:AGMUT) and Shankar Chaudhary (IPS:2011:AGMUT).
According to the report, Gaurav Sharma was transferred from Delhi to Ladakh in September 2024. After serving there for a brief period, he returned to Delhi and has not reported back to Ladakh for nearly a year. In April 2026, he was attached to the Ladakh Police Headquarters.
Brijendra Singh was transferred to Puducherry in February 2023. After serving there for over two years, he has been on medical leave for nearly a year.
Shankar Chaudhary was transferred to Mizoram in July 2023. Since returning to Delhi in 2025, he has also remained on medical leave. The Delhi Police Vigilance Branch has also registered a case against him involving allegations of illegal raids, wrongful confinement and extortion.
The report said the MHA had sought details in June from States and Union Territories regarding officers on prolonged medical leave. The Ministry also clarified that any period spent staying in Delhi on medical leave during an outstation posting would not be counted as part of the actual tenure of that posting.
Following this, a nine-member AIIMS medical board, headed by Dr Vivek Shankar, examined the three officers. Based on the medical board’s report, the MHA will decide on the validity of the officers’ health-related claims and further administrative action.
