India convened its 11th Heads of Mission (HoM) Conference in New Delhi from April 28 to 30, 2026, bringing together its top diplomats at a time of growing global uncertainty.
Organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, the three-day conference was attended by ambassadors and high commissioners from across the world. The meeting was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
The central theme of the conference was “Reforming Indian Diplomacy for 2047,” with discussions focused on aligning India’s foreign policy priorities with its long-term national goals.
The timing of the conference was significant, as India faces multiple international challenges. These include tensions in West Asia affecting energy supplies, evolving ties with the United States, China’s growing strategic presence, and shifting geopolitical equations involving Pakistan and BRICS countries.
During the conference, diplomats engaged in detailed discussions on India’s neighbourhood, West Asia, China and the emerging global order. The deliberations also focused on expanding India’s global footprint through trade, technology and tourism, often referred to as the “3Ts” approach.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need to strengthen India’s global engagement and build strong international partnerships. He also highlighted the importance of aligning diplomatic efforts with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar noted that India’s diplomatic engagement has expanded significantly in recent years and stressed the need to remain agile in a rapidly changing global environment.
The conference also included sessions on security challenges and military preparedness, with inputs from NSA Ajit Doval and CDS General Anil Chauhan.
Overall, the meeting underscored the need for a more coordinated and outcome-driven approach to diplomacy, as India seeks to navigate a complex global landscape while advancing its national interests.
