New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Sudha Singh (IPS:2006:OD) has been appointed as Inspector General in the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on deputation basis.
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday (September 17, 2026), the competent authority has approved both the waiver of the mandatory “cooling-off” period for central deputation in respect of Singh and her appointment as Inspector General in NCRB.
The appointment has been made on the usual terms and conditions of deputation. The MHA has also directed that Singh may be relieved from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to enable her to take up her new assignment in the National Crime Records Bureau.
Singh had recently completed her seven-year tenure with the CBI, where she last served as Joint Director. Her deputation tenure with the agency concluded on July 28, 2026.
She had joined the CBI in July 2019 as Superintendent of Police (SP), and her initial five-year deputation tenure was subsequently extended by two years in July 2024.
The appointment comes a day after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the waiver of the mandatory cooling-off period for Singh in relaxation of the IPS Tenure Policy.
