Ashish Kumar Gupta Prematurely Repatriated to Parent Cadre

Ashish Kumar Gupta, Joint Secretary in MoSPI, has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre on personal grounds, around 10 months before tenure ends.

New Delhi: Ashish Kumar Gupta (IOFS:2002), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday (September 8, 2026), the competent authority has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation to repatriate him to his parent cadre on personal grounds, with imposition of extended cooling-off.

Gupta has been serving in the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation since July 16, 2020. He was initially appointed at the Director level for a five-year tenure. In June 2025, before completion of his tenure as Director, his tenure in the Ministry was extended by two years, up to July 15, 2027.

He was subsequently appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry with effect from January 1, 2026. However, he is now being repatriated to his parent cadre, around 10 months before the extended tenure was due to end.
