UP bureaucratic corridors buzz about major DM reshuffle; 10–12 districts may see changes

Major DM reshuffle is reportedly being discussed in Uttar Pradesh, with 10–12 districts likely to see changes and 2017-batch IAS officers considered for DM postings.

Lucknow: A major exercise is reportedly underway in Uttar Pradesh over the next round of District Magistrate (DM) postings, with a reshuffle potentially affecting around 10–12 districts, according to the latest buzz in administrative circles.

The discussions centre around the possible posting of three to four IAS officers of the 2017 batch as DMs. If the move goes through, at least three serving DMs from the 2016 batch may have to be shifted to other districts to make room for the younger officers.

This could set off a chain of movements, with several serving DMs also likely to be considered for another district posting as part of the exercise.

Interestingly, there is also said to be strong confidence in the 2011-batch IAS officers currently serving as DMs, indicating that the government may not be looking at a wholesale change at that level.

The expected reshuffle has therefore generated considerable interest among officers in the state, particularly because a change involving a few key districts could trigger inter-district movements involving a much larger number of DMs.
