New Delhi: IAS officer Sanjay Kumar (IAS:2008:AGMUT), currently serving as Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India (ECI), has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre AGMUT on personal grounds.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (August 24, 2026), the competent authority has approved the proposal of the ECI for his premature repatriation to the parent cadre on personal grounds.
Kumar’s tenure in the Election Commission was due to end on January 26, 2027.
Notably, he had initially joined central deputation on January 27, 2022, when he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) for a five-year tenure.
Later, in August 2024, he was shifted to the Election Commission of India as Deputy Secretary (JS level) for the remaining period of his five-year central deputation tenure.
