8th Pay Commission to hold consultations in Jaipur, Chennai and Chandigarh soon

The input gathering assumes significance, as the panel’s recommendations could affect around 50 lakh central govt employees and nearly 65 lakh pensioners.

8th Pay Commission

The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) is in the process of wrapping up its nationwide consultation phase. With this view in mind, it is visiting different cities to gather feedback from stakeholder groups like employees’ and pensioners’ associations, unions, federations, and other groups to gather inputs.

As per reliable sources, the panel is slated to visit Jaipur (from August 31 to September 1), Chennai (from September 7 to 8), Chandigarh (from September 16 to 18), and Puducherry (on September 9) to meet stakeholders. They have been asked to submit appointment requests by August 18 for the Jaipur, Chennai, and Puducherry visits, and by August 25 for Chandigarh.

Besides, it also plans to visit railway establishments in Mumbai to gain a firsthand insight into the working conditions of railway employees.

These consultations are part of a broader data-gathering exercise that began with state-level meetings earlier this year. Since March, the Commission has visited several locations to interact with stakeholder groups to gather inputs regarding pay, allowances, and pension benefits.

The input gathering assumes significance because the commission’s recommendations could affect more than 1 crore people, which includes around 50 lakh central government employees and nearly 65 lakh pensioners.

The Commission, constituted on November 3, 2025, under former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, is expected to submit its recommendations within 18 months of its constitution. Thus, its deadline is May 2027.

The implementation of its recommendations can take two to three years as it requires the government’s consideration, rollout, and final approval.
