The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to get a new Chairperson with the transfer of Lokhande Prashant Sitaram (IAS:2001:AGMUT) to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as Additional Secretary.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (July 2, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment as Additional Secretary, Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs.
However, Sitaram will continue to hold the additional charge of Chairperson, CBSE until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Notably, Sitaram was appointed as Chairperson of the CBSE on June 2, 2026, replacing Rahul Singh (IAS:1996:BH), who was transferred as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
His appointment as CBSE Chairperson had come amid the controversy surrounding the Board’s new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. With his transfer to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Centre is now expected to appoint a regular Chairperson for the CBSE.
