Cadre restructuring in ED

With a view to strengthen the framework of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the central government has approved a large-scale cadre restructuring in the agency. According to the decision taken by the Revenue Department of the Finance Ministry, the number of posts at various levels in the agency has been significantly increased so that it can better handle the growing number of cases and the expanding scope of investigations.

According to the order, the biggest expansion in the ED’s executive structure has been made at the middle and lower levels.

The number of Additional Director’s posts has been increased from 10 to 24, while the number of Joint Director’s posts has been raised from 28 to 49. Similarly, the number of Deputy Director’s posts has been increased from 148 to 267, Assistant Director’s posts from 255 to 531, Enforcement Officer’s posts from 355 to 606, and Assistant Enforcement Officer’s posts from 425 to 803.

Apart from this, several new posts have also been approved in the legal, adjudication, security, and support staff cadres.

The government said the decision was taken to strengthen the ED’s capacity in view of the increasing number of cases related to financial crimes, money laundering, and foreign exchange violations, as well as the widening scope of investigations.

According to the govt. sources, the order of restructuring was issued after getting approval from the competent authority, and the additional expenditure will be met from the ED’s existing budget.
