New Delhi: The Centre has extended the tenure of Gurdeep Singh as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NTPC Limited by another six months. His tenure was scheduled to expire on July 31. The extension will be effective from August 1. Singh will continue in the position till January 31, 2027, or until a regular appointee takes charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his re-employment on a contract basis.
Singh has been heading the country’s largest power producer since 2016. He had also received a one-year post-retirement extension last year after attaining the age of superannuation.
Before taking charge as CMD of NTPC, Singh served as the Managing Director of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation.
