Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be meeting state chief secretaries next month to finalize the near-term policy agenda so that it could be discussed in the annual conclave with chief ministers. This meeting has been called by NITI Aayog.

Identifying key issues for the Prime Minister to take up with chief ministers is the prime concern of Niti Aayog behind calling this three-day meeting starting on 13 December. The Niti Aayog’s purpose is to have an idea of expectations of the states from next Union budget through its governing council meeting.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be parallelly meeting her state counterparts at Jaisalmer on December 20.

The PM had discussed a vision paper on making India a $30 trillion developed economy by 2047 with chief ministers at the last Niti Aayog governing council meeting held in the national capital in July.

Modi had that time asked state chief ministers to come up with vision documents for the development of their respective states so that India’s dream could be fulfilled.

The fact of the matter is that the Union Government wants states to bring economic reforms in order to attract more investments and spur development while states are looking forward to bringing up resource allocation and fiscal support for schemes in discussions.
