In a significant development, senior IPS officer Jaspal Singh (IPS:1996:AGMUT) has been appointed as the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police. Previously, he served as the Director General of Police (DGP) for Goa.
On July 12, 2024, Jaspal Singh was transferred from the Goa DGP post to Delhi, and Alok Kumar (IPS:1996:AGMUT) was appointed as the new DGP of Goa. Singh’s transfer order followed an inquiry initiated by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant after the demolition of a house in North Goa’s Assagao. A report from the Anjuna police station claimed that DGP Jaspal Singh “pressurised” his subordinates to allow the demolition.
Jaspal Singh has denied the allegations, calling them baseless and preposterous, and stated that there is no truth to them.
Mr. Singh brings extensive experience and expertise in law enforcement, accumulated through decades of service in diverse roles. During his tenure as DGP of Goa Police, he implemented proactive measures to combat crime and introduced initiatives aimed at improving public safety.
