Maharashtra : CS Sitaram Kunte retires, becomes Principal Advisor to CM; Debashish Chakrabarty takes over as CS

Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte (IAS:1985:MH) retired from service on Tuesday (30.11.2021) as he did not get an extension from the Central government. Debashish Chakrabarty (IAS:1986:MH), Additional Chief Secretary, Planning Department, has been given additional charge of the Chief Secretary post.

Meanwhile, Sitaram Kunte was appointed as Principal Advisor to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddav Thakeray in view of his long experience in administration.

Earlier, the State had sent a proposal for six-month extension to Kunte which was not approved by the Central government.

Kunte took charge on February 28 this year as the Chief Secretary from the outgoing Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar (IAS:1984:MH).
