While announcing its disinvestment plans for some industry giants like BPCL, Air India and LIC, the government has told parliament that it has no such intentions for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL ) and Mahanagar Sanchar Nigam Limited (MTNL). Instead, the government plans to revive both companies.
In a written reply to the parliament, minister of state for communications Sanjay Dhotre said that the government has approved the revival plan for both BSNL and MTNL.
The protesting employees of both companies are resorting to strikes, since their salaries have been delayed for months, due to financial crisis.
The Minister also informed Rajya Sabha that nearly one lakh employees of BSNL and MTNL have taken VRS (voluntary retirement).
