New Delhi: The central deputation tenure of Smita Srivastava (IRSEE:1997) as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education has been extended by one year.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday (September 25, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Department of Higher Education to extend her deputation tenure for one year beyond July 29, 2026, up to July 29, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The extension is being given by continuing the upgradation of the post held by her to the level of Joint Secretary for the third year.
Srivastava has been serving in the Department of Higher Education since July 29, 2018, when she joined as Director for an initial tenure of five years. Her deputation was subsequently extended by two years in June 2023, up to July 29, 2025.
She was empanelled for Joint Secretary-level posts in April 2025 and was subsequently elevated as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education on May 29, 2025.
In October 2025, her deputation was extended by one year up to July 29, 2026. With the latest ACC approval, she will now continue in the department up to July 29, 2027, subject to the stated conditions.
